HBI survey shows how pessimistic operators are for H2 recovery

For this week’s infographic, we put together the results of an HBI survey to explore operator confidence of recovery post-COVID. Just 36% are ‘very confident’ that sales will return to 2019 levels by April 2021.

Around 100 operators responded to our survey, revealing the pandemic’s impact on their company’s earnings, how they are responding and their confidence in future forecasts.

When looking forward dentistry and IVF operators are still pessimistic of any sort of return to normality in H2 2020. Hospital operators, in general, expect a small recovery while imaging, labs and nursing homes do expect falls but nowhere near the sharp drops seen during the worst stages of the pandemic. Just one dentistry operator thought their sales would rise in the second half of the year.

In terms of operators confidence in whether sales will return to 2019 levels by April 2021: 36% are very confident, 46% are somewhat confident, 13% are not confident at all and 5% do not expect them to return at all.

The HBI survey also reveals how revenues have fallen on a like-for-like basis over the last four weeks. You can read more about this on this week’s lead story.
