Prof Dr Jörg Debatin

After completing Medical School at the University of Heidelberg, Jörg began his professional career in Diagnostic Radiology, completing his residency at Duke, a fellowship in abdominal Imaging at Stanford, and working as an attending at the University of Zurich Medical Center. In 1998 he was appointed Full Professor and Director of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Essen. From 2003 he served as Medical Director & CEO of the University Medical Center, Hamburg-Eppendorf. In 2011 he moved to industry as CEO of amedes AG, a European Diagnostics Lab-Services provider, and from 2014 to 2018 as Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for GE Healthcare. Here he oversaw the global technology and product portfolio strategy for GE’s $19 Bn healthcare business. Upon returning to Germany, Jörg built the health innovation hub (hih), an independent think tank serving the German Federal Ministry of Health. Leading an interdisciplinary team of 15 domain experts, Jörg was close to the creation and implementation of more than 30 legislative initiatives laying the foundation for the digital transformation of Healthcare in Germany within the legislative period ending Dec. 2021. With the onset of 2022, Jörg focusses on being a healthcare entrepreneur, having co-founded Honic and Procarement, two companies pursuing business models in the digital healthcare space. Furthermore, he strategically supports companies in the med-tech, biotech, and medical services industries by serving in Board positions.
Jörg received his Medical and Doctorate Degree from the University of Heidelberg and the Venia Legendi from the University of Zurich. He also holds an MBA degree from the Hochschule St.Gallen (HSG) in Switzerland.
