    $17 billion health care provider and insurer based in Pittsburgh. In 2006 UPMC launched a joint venture with the UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre in Waterford, Ireland providing radiotherapy for patients travelling often over 2 hours previously for treatment. Although the centre was performing well, local market survey results signalled low brand recognition among consumers for UPMC. The marketing team engaged a local research agency in Ireland to gather market insights and test localized messaging for a consumer-focused marketing campaign. The result was a new campaign that reflected the unique culture of southeast Ireland and increased brand awareness. UPMC based its campaign on the consumer’s right to “choose” using real patient stories.
