IHH takes over Bulgaria
IHH Acibadem’s planned takeover of two of the top three largest Bulgarian operators is interesting on two levels.
Firstly, it enables City one of the target to avoid damage from healthcare reforms which would have cut revenue from the national insurer who is trying to switch patients to large public sector university hospitals.
Secondly, for Acibadem it pre-empts a similar threat to its radiotherapy business which has taken many Bulgarian patinets to Istanbul for treatment. That too was threatened by new public sector facilities in bulgaria which are about to come on stream.
It leaves IHH in a dominant position in a new national market.
