Middle income countries and elderly care

Orpea’s acquisition of MEDI-System, the largest nursing home chain in Poland, shows the huge potential for private elderly care in middle income countries in Europe and around the world.

Orpea intends to build a chain which covers regional cities with as few as 100,000-200,000 people  (See our interview here).

Elsewhere, we see similar moves. Look at Chile, where Belgian nursing home group Senior Assist International, plans to double its operation to 1,500 beds.

In Europe, middle-income targets are Romania and Turkey. In Emerging Markets look to Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay and the wealthy Middle East. We address all this in much more detail at our annual conference on April 26-27 in London, where speakers include Marcello Fonseca, CEO, Dalben, Brazil’s largest elderly care operator, Dr Helmut Schühsler, TVM Capital and Bart Vanderschrick, CEO, Senior Assist International.
