Emergency hospital department visits dip again
Emergency hospital attendances in West Europe have started to fall again as it enters a second wave of COVID-19, official data sources show.
The infographic below – an update of one we did a few months ago – shows the year-on-year change in monthly A&E attendances for March through to September in England, France, Germany and Portugal.
The data, from official sources outlined below the chart, shows that volumes have started to drop from July and August onwards after the initial recovery from the troughs in March/April. The data covers all A&E attendances including those for COVID-19 although methodology may differ slightly by source.
Note: The Robert Koch Institute has not published national figures past June (used for the previous infographic) but has instead used figures for a handful of selected hospital emergency departments. But as those new figures still match up with the national data before, we’ve used it for the recent infographic.
