For-profit nursing home consolidation

This week, we look at the extent to which the for-profit elderly nursing home market is consolidated in five major European countries – France, Germany, UK, Spain and Italy. These figures are a snapshot of the position based on revenues in 2020 taken from HBI Intelligence.

Red portions of the dial above relate to the revenue earned by the top five players in each country as a percentage of the total market, green represents the remainder. As of 2020, France had the most consolidated market with Korian, Orpea and Domus Vi dominating the market.

Over in Germany it is much less consolidated, Korian and Allohein Senioren-residezen have the most significant shares.

The United Kingdom is the least consolidated in 2020 with small but significant shares of the market being held by operators such as Barchester, Fours seasons, Care UK and HCOne.

Italy is again dominated by Korian, Gruppo KOS also have a significant share as do Gruppo Giomi and Groupe Maisons de Famille.

Spain has around 45% consolidation in the for-profit sector and is dominated by Domus Vi, with Colisee and Maisons de Famille having a significant shares as well.
