How Covid changed four sectors’ growth trajectory

How has the global pandemic changed the 2020-23 growth trajectory for the EMEA for-profit hospital, imaging, lab and teleradiology sectors, compared to what would have happened with no Covid? HBI Intelligence data reveals all.

The infographic below is a snapshot of months of work in HBI Intelligence for our Hospital, Imaging, Laboratory Services and Teleradiology reports.

The blue columns show our growth forecasts for the four for-profit healthcare sub-sectors in EMEA for 2016-2023, in light of the pandemic. In red, we show the difference between where the figures were heading before the pandemic struck. For labs, we’ve separated out the pre-Covid figure into a separate column as Covid actually boosted the size of the market substantially, though we have it normalising to close to what the market would have been without Covid by 2023.

For the other three, hospitals were the last negatively affected thanks to government protections and strong catch-ups on elective activity in the second half of the year. Imaging did nearly as well though suffered from fewer revenue guarantees and much deeper revenue falls in lockdown. Teleradiology has been the worst affected so far.
