How Covid reshaped diagnostics markets’ structure
This week we look at how the Covid-19 pandemic upended the proportion between the for-profit lab and imaging sectors in six of West Europe’s six big markets.
The chart below shows how the what proportion of the for-profit diagnostic market in France, the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland was made up of labs and imaging in 2019, compared with 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. The underlying data for these pie charts can be found in our HBI Intelligence Imaging and Lab reports.
In each country, testing for Covid has seen the lab market soar while imaging has gone the other way, reshaping the balance between the two. This effect was most pronounced in Spain and Switzerland. And the effect is certain to be sustained during 2021 and possibly for years to come.
