How the pandemic impacted psychiatry market growth
The pandemic stalled growth in and shrank for-profit psychiatry markets, as shown by a new release of data from the HBI Intelligence centre.

The data shows that most markets continued to grow, just not as fast as the previous year. Markets that were able to sustain growth have healthcare systems already well adapted to digitalisation and outpatient care.
Across Europe, outpatient psychiatry seems like it was less affected than inpatient hospitals because operators could switch to digital fairly quickly, and inpatient hospitals were more affected by social distancing and disruptions to GP referrals.
Going forward, demand has exploded but supply is hampered by a lack of funds in both the public and private sector, as well as a shortage of psychiatrists.
