Partnerships in healthcare

Last week I had the pleasure of making a business trip to Bavaria to spend time with a key long-term business partner. Although like many business trips this was just a brief overnight visit, my colleagues and I did get the chance to walk around the imposing Nuremberg Castle, which dates back to 1140 AD, and through the historical mile which rewards visitors with its enchanting medieval architecture.

If you haven’t yet been to Bavaria I can recommend the city as an excellent starting point from which to explore the region. We have to thank our hosts who had kindly recommended a very well appointed hotel as the best place to stay to catch a little local culture during our visit.

Making this trip got me thinking about the true nature of partnership, both in general and specifically within healthcare. Better authorities than me often describe high-quality partnerships being founded on virtues such as sharing common values and goals, commitment to mutual benefit, open communication, collaborative decision-making, dedication to the long-term and of course trust.

In healthcare, the clear consensus is that the best partnerships improve patient outcomes. Those who are investing in healthcare invariably start from this point. Many see partnership as an essential means to improve patients’ health and wellbeing by driving efficiency, value, and innovation to address complex challenges.

How healthcare is funded is just one of the challenges that has to be met. Long-term partnerships such as PPPs that are founded on common goals and trust are an important option for large scale infrastructure and service projects. This is just one theme that we’ll be discussing at HBI 2026 March 23-25 CNIT Forest, Paris. You are cordially invited to join us to give and receive inspiration and perhaps to instigate a new high-quality partnership (or two) of your own.

In the meantime, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our partners Siemens Healthineers for being such great hosts and for inspiring us to commit to building another high-quality partnership together. If the factory visit to see the MRI manufacturing process was a highlight of this trip, the true value will be in the long-term partnerships that we bring together in 2026 and beyond.
