4. What, in your opinion, makes the platform unique?
Ada’s deep medical foundation and our approach is what makes us unique. Our AI platform has been built over seven years of research and development, enabling us to refine our reasoning technology and build up a very robust medical knowledge base covering many thousands of real medical cases, conditions, symptoms and findings.
Medical Foundation: We started by designing the core of our technology to support medical specialists with diagnosis, ensuring that Ada’s reasoning and knowledge was intuitive and accurate, and then continued to build on that, eventually translating our core content, knowledge base and technology into a tool accessible to patients, culminating in the patient-facing personal guide available globally today. As such, Ada is the only platform with the reasoning to support both patients and doctors. Doctors have played a key role in Ada’s development and continue to contribute to Ada’s learning.
Reasoning: Ada’s bespoke AI is able to review multiple pieces of data to output probabilities, which means that Ada can consider a variety of diseases to make a health assessment, to provide the most likely explanations for a user’s symptoms. Ada also doesn’t exclusively rely on information from one type of data source. We continue to update our medical knowledge base with the latest medical information, and we’ve integrated machine learning techniques that enable Ada to learn from every interaction. Over 3.6M assessments have been completed, and as Ada’s user base continues to expand around the world, and Ada incorporates different data sources (i.e. medical history, sensors, lab tests, etc.), Ada is becoming more intelligent, putting us ahead in the market.
Patient-Centricity & Global Reach: Ada combines the best of AI with the insights of doctors, to help people understand and manage their health, simplifying the healthcare experience on a global scale- from assessing pressing mental and physical health concerns, to saving time at the doctor’s office, and helping individuals get to the appropriate next step in their care. Every part of Ada is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, with Ada’s patient-friendly ethos reflected in our feedback, with over 40,000 5 star reviews and the highest percentage of 5 star reviews compared to the top 5 tier 1 competitors.
*Correctly diagnosed me with bronchitis where my local clinic said it was a sinus infection (went to my actual doctor and they confirmed bronchitis). Questions are very thorough for every symptom you input and results give you the likelihood of you having that ailment. Includes mental illness as well like anxiety disorder. It’s so great, I’ve already recommended this app to several friends.
*I reside in a semi-rural community in Nigeria and my family runs a pharmaceutical store so naturally folks come asking for medical advice and it just feels wrong turning them away, it won’t only ruin my family’s business reputation, it could potentially close the business but thanks to this app, I can make informed judgements and give them accurate suggestions on what to do about the diagnosis I receive…
*Have you ever felt like you couldn’t get an exact answer from google? I asked ‘ada’ what my knee pain was which I have had diagnosed as iliotibial band syndrome before and when I had been asked to describe my symptoms she had my diagnosis from the doctor in the assessment, very helpful for people who don’t have access to doctors right away
*Very helpful*”Quite a well designed app. Use it whenever I’m presenting signs and symptoms outside of the general sickness. Even helped me identify quite a serious thing (Crohn’s Disease), which got me into the hospital and getting the treatment I will need.”
5. When was the service first launched?
Month : November
Year : 2016
6. What impact has the platform had on your business?
How many users have signed up for the service? : Over 3.5M health assessments have been completed on Ada, with a new assessment completed, on average, every five seconds, and Ada’s personal health guide was one of the fastest growing medical apps in 2017.
How many have subsequently become active users) (We would expect this to be a small percentage of the sign ups). Please define what exactly you mean by an active user. : Ada has helped over 2 million people with their health (# of people who have created profiles). The idea of ‘regular users’ is harder to quantify for an app like Ada because people tend to do an assessment on Ada when they have a specific health concern, but the number is comparable to a person visiting a doctor twice per quarter.
Have you a net promoter score for the service from active users? If so, what is it? : Ada has over 60,000 reviews with a 4.7 rating.
Has it led to any incremental increase in revenue? If so, how can you best quantify this? : There are many opportunities in the healthcare industry for Ada to grow, and we are partnering with local and global health providers, organisations and other businesses, which we’ll be able to share more details on in the near future. We can quantify this based on impact, scope and longevity of partnerships. We would welcome your thoughts on this story. Email your views to Zhasmina Simeonova or call 0207 183 3779.
