The HBI Top 100 2024 edition is now live: highlights of what’s in the report
This week HBI is publishing the 2024 edition of our annual ranking of the top 100 healthcare providers in EMEA, based on their 2023 revenue. This marks our fourth year of assessing the largest healthcare service providers in the region, drawing from a comprehensive database of over 4,000 providers.
The article, which can be accessed here, examines the top 100 companies, analysing the sectors they operate in, their revenue distribution by sub-sector, ownership type, and provides a country-by-country analysis based on representation.
Our analysis reveals that German hospital giant Fresenius Helios continues to lead the market, with revenues of €12.3 billion in 2023.
Germany led with 19 companies, followed by France, with 17 companies, and the UK, with 14, indicating the continued dominance of traditional Western European providers. However, emerging operators in the Middle East are gaining traction.
Middle Eastern groups performed well, with multiple groups climbing a significant number of places. Saudi Arabia and UAE-based groups have benefited from government initiatives promoting private sector growth.
Laboratory groups experienced the steepest declines, with nearly half dropping five or more places due to covid testing winding down. The elderly care sector also struggled, particularly in France, while hospital groups, the largest segment, demonstrated resilience, with many climbing several places.
