Top for-profit psychiatry and mental health groups in Europe

This week’s infographic highlights the top three for-profit psychiatry and mental health groups in Europe by 2023 revenue: Priory Group, with €886.8 million, Cygnet Health Care, with €658 million, Elysium Healthcare €446.6 million. Only for-profit providers for whom the majority of their revenue comes from acute inpatient psychiatry have been included.

The data has been sourced from the HBI Intelligence database.

All three of the companies are UK companies. The explanation for this is that the UK’s NHS does a significant amount of outsourcing to private groups for acute psychiatry care. Whilst in other major European markets there is for-profit provision, it is mostly done by hospital, nursing home or rehab groups, or smaller pureplay psychiatry groups.

Note: Revenues represent total group figures (in € millions) for the leading for-profit groups in Europe’s psychiatry and mental health sector. A minority of the companies’ total revenue derives from activities outside core mental health and psychiatry services.
