In Germany, 68% of dentistry spending coming from the public insurer. The countries with the least public funding are Greece and Spain.

The two Mediterranean countries also have the highest out of pocket spend. A consultant HBI interviewed for its upcoming Spanish dentistry update said Spain’s NHS cannot afford to pay for dentistry and private medical insurance (PMI) does not cover many services in dentistry.

The Netherlands has the highest proportion of dentistry spend coming from PMI, with 67%.
