Hospitals dominate upcoming private projects in Saudi

Three quarters of the privately-delivered health care project pipeline in Saudi Arabia are general/multi-speciality hospitals, according to Vivek Shukla, executive director – commercial at state-owned UAE health care conglomerate Pure Health. Shukla spoke at a webinar HBI hosted entitled ‘Saudi Health Transformation – The Real Opportunity’ on Wednesday.

Over 78% of the upcoming health care projects that are being delivered by the private sector in Saudi Arabia as part of its Vision 2030 plan are multi-speciality or general hospital projects. Much of these are coming from well-established groups such as Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital in Riyadh, Haif Company Olaya Hospital in Riyadh, Al Murjan Group Hospital in Jeddah and King’s College Hospital in Jeddah.

A much smaller percentage (around 10%) are specialised hospitals. Groups involved in this area include Sulaiman Al Habib Maternity and Pediatric Hospital in Riyadh.

An even smaller percentage of the upcoming pipeline of projects are in the primary care sector (just 6%).
