Mental health demand rockets due to COVID

Demand for mental health support is set to increase alarmingly over the next five years. The attached infographic formed part of a presentation by Hedley Goldberg, managing director at Rothschild & Co, at HBI 2021. It paints a worrying picture.

In the UK alone, a predicted 10 million people will need mental health support over the next five years. 1.5m these will be children and there will be two to three times more demand than supply. Goldberg said this is “very stark” adding: “Clearly, there are two things here. One is there has to be capacity to provide and an ability to pay: one suspects both are in short supply.”
