UK’s GHO Capital sells VISUfarma to India’s Lupin for €190m

GHO Capital Partners, the London-based private equity firm that targets early stage and mid-market investments, has agreed to sell VISUfarma, its pan-European ophthalmic pharmaceutical company, to Indian pharmaceutical group Lupin for €190 million (~ ₹2,000 crore).

Sana Kliniken sells procurement arm to Nordic Capital-backed Vivecti Group

Sana Kliniken, Germany’s third largest for-profit hospital group by revenue, is selling its procurement arm, Sana Einkauf, to Vivecti Group, a major German healthcare procurement platform that has been owned by private equity firm Nordic Capital since 2018. A procurement expert tells us this deal looks like “a desperate attempt to finally achieve the long-awaited exit for Nordic Capital”.

emeis to reduce net debt by €700m through real estate vehicle

Europe’s largest nursing home group emeis plans to raise hundreds of millions of euros to help pay down its huge pile of debt by partially divesting 68 properties it still owns. Rather than simply doing full sale-and-leasebacks of these properties, the group is creating a special real estate investment vehicle to hold the assets, which it will retain a stake in.

What Eko Health’s AI stethoscope can teach us about AI adoption in healthcare

An AI-powered digital stethoscope developed by a California-based medtech company called Eko Health has been found to detect heart conditions with significantly greater sensitivity than doctors using analogue stethoscopes in a trial with 200 UK GP practices. But the same study also found that 70% of these GP surgeries had stopped using them or were only using them infrequently a year after they were given them. In a conversation with HBI, Alfred Olivares and Nick Kovacev, who work for US technology consultancy HTEC, suggested some of the reasons for this, and the broader lessons for health tech companies trying to develop impactful AI tools.
