Circle to partner in China and Europe

UK hospital management group Circle is set to partner with a European player to offer a rehabilitation solution in the UK. We name the likely partner. Circle has also announced a joint venture with what it claims is the fourth largest hospital chain in China.

Carlyle buys stake in Schoen Klinik

German newspaper Handelsblatt reports that private equity house Carlyle has bought a minority stake in German hospital operator Schön Klinik.

PAI turns to SAR as Maisons de Famille pays 14x EBITDA for Amma

French care group Maisons de Famille has started due diligence on Spain's fifth largest group Amma after having a €220-230m bid accepted. Considering Amma's €16m EBITDA target for 2016, owner Caixabank is fetching 14-15x forward EBITDA. Private equity bidder PAI Partners stepped back and has turned towards the market leader SARquavitae, which is also readying up for sale. Also in Spain, Belgian care group Armonea has bought La Saleta, a nine-nursing home group in Valencia with sales of €34m.

Salauno continues expansion

Mexican affordable optha group salauno has raised 72m pesos (US$3.8m), 50m from GLA, the fund of the Laviada Diez-Barroso Family, and the rest from IFC, a branch of the World Bank, to spend on a new 3,000 square metre hospital and ten new clinics in Mexico city. Director General, Javier Okhuysen, also said a sale to a large group would be appropriate in a “couple of years time.”

NMC to enter India

India continues to draw Gulf hospital groups, as NMC looks set to follow in Aster DM and VPS Healthcare’s footsteps by buying Sunshine Hospitals of Hyderabad. The Emiratis will pay INR 4bn (US$60m) for a 65% stake in a group with around 500 beds that made EBITDA of INR 33.2m (US$0.5m) on sales of INR 1,572m (US$23.7m), in the financial year ending March 2015.
