Danish private hospitals fight new status

As private hospitals in Denmark form a new association bringing together rehabilitation and preventive care providers, a new regulation changing the status of hospitals is coming under fire from the private sector. We speak to Bent Jakobsen, vice-president of the new association and medical director of Aleris Hamlet.

Acibadem confirms Bulgarian deal

The Turkish subsidiary of IHH Healthcare Berhad, Acibadem, will buy Bulgaria’s largest private hospital, Tokuda, and up its stake in the chain, City Clinic, for a total of €144.5m including debt. “We will focus on medical tourism,” Angel Angelov, a shareholder at City Clinic told Reuters, before confirming interest in attracting customers from the CSU and the Middle East.

Northwest REIT buys Berlin MOBs

The Canadian REIT, Northwest Healthcare Properties, purchased two medical office buildings (MOBs) in Berlin for €13.5m. The Mehrower Allee Complex will pay a 6.8% yield with an average lease expiry of four years.

Orpea closes pricey Sanyres deal

Sources claim Paris-listed care group Orpea has closed a preliminary agreement to buy Spanish nursing home group Sanyres for nearly 13x EBITDA. Spain's market leader SARquavitae only pulled out at the last minute, we hear. MDMG leads the way in Russia

Russian maternal health specialist, Mother & Child Hospitals (MDMG), posted strong first quarter operational results and opened a new greenfield clinic in Kostroma. IVF cycles grew by 55% and deliveries grew by 18% y-o-y. Russia’s biggest private healthcare operator by sales is demonstrating the market’s potential with EBITDA margins of 28% on sales of 9,507 million rubles (€128m) in 2015.
