Combining over 145,000 beds across Europe, France’s two largest elderly care providers Korian and Orpea have released their 2016 revenue ahead of their full results later in March. But investors’ and analysts’ reactions couldn’t be more different, as Orpea’s share price soars and Korian’s tumbles.
The European Commission has referred the merger of French hospital groups Elsan and MédiPôle Partenaires to the French Competition Authority. Groupe C2S, a hospital network in Eastern France backed by private equity house Bridgepoint, is in negotiations to sell its Bordeaux clinic – its only asset located outside of its core regional market – to central France-based hospital operator Groupe Saint-Gatien, before summer 2017.
PAI Partners has sold French medical laboratory services operator Cerba HealthCare to Swiss private equity house Partners Group and Canadian pension fund PSP Investments for €1.8bn –before second round bids started in February. Healthcare Europa understands Partners Group acquired a majority stake and PSP Investments a significant minority stake in the group.
French laboratory chain Cerba could be valued at up to €2bn -with three bidders still in the race. It is rumoured the group could sell before February, when second round bids are set. But owner PAI Partners may not get the price it hoped for.
Banking sources say they are confident that there will be bids for Cerba, the big French lab group.
L'Agefi, the French financial news service, reports that first round bids for Cerba, the big reference lab group, put up for auction by PAI, ends this week. It names the advisers as Natixis and JPMorgan. Reuters reports that PAI expects to receive two bids of around €1.8bn on December 8.
France’s second largest hospital operator Elsan has bought a hospital in Morocco – Healthcare Europa understands. The moves comes as banks are lining up a leveraged loan backing owner CVC ahead of Elsan’s acquisition of MédiPôle Partenaires, the country’s third largest hospital group.
