Qualitas looking at Vietnam and Myanmar

The Malaysian primary care chain, Qualitas Health, is looking at Myanmar and Vietnam as part of its expansion plans. Executive director, Kharim Dhala, told Healthcare Nova his CFO is currently looking at opportunities.

KPJ seeks Malaysian dominance

Malaysia’s biggest hospital group KPJ Healthcare Berhad will spend RM1.3bn (US$333m) on eight new hospitals and RM4-500m (US$100-128m) on expansions to seven existing hospitals over the next three to five years. In 2012, the group announced aggressive plans to reach 40 hospitals by 2020 and with 25 already it’s well placed to dominate a prosperous market, Inani Rozidin, an analyst at Alliance DBS, tells us.

Apollo to enter subscription market & Malaysia

India’s largest healthcare provider, Apollo Hospitals, plans to release a subscription healthcare product in 2016. This would be the first insurance product to cover outpatient services in the country, Neeraj Garg, CEO of Apollo Health and Lifestyle, told Healthcare Nova.

Pan-Gulf expansion could be the new business model for big private operators. We talk to Amitava Ghosal, the CEO of Avivo, the new name for Healthcare Mena, the operator backed by private equity house Al Masah Capital about his plans. He wants to expand out of the UAE and Kuwait and into Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia with a specialist outpatient clinic chain. Future steps include hospitals and SE Asia.
