Iqarus completes first overseas deal with Afghan clinic

UK-based occupational health provider Iqarus, which specialises in “demanding and complex operating environments”, has made its first international acquisition in Afghanistan. HC-One’s chairman warns of wave of UK care home closures

The chairman and CEO of the UK’s fourth largest care home group by sales, HC-One, has told Healthcare Europa that the latest funding arrangement for the industry is not enough and will lead to more closures. Dr Chai Patel, former owner of the Priory Group, believes “the government is coming up with new ideas” and also revealed HC-One is no longer considering sale and leaseback deals.

UK health insurance cover starts to grow at last

The UK health insurance sector, which by the end of 2015 had lost 8% of its subscribers compared to the end of 2008, appears to be on the rebound. This is the claim from LaingBuisson, a healthcare market intelligence provider which has just published a report on the subject entitled Health Cover.

Circle Rehabilitation Services, a joint venture between the UK private hospital group, Circle Health, and Vamed, an international hospital construction and management operator, is confident there is a mix of payors willing to fund inpatient rehab. The service should cost roughly two-thirds the price of an NHS acute bed per night, Circle’s chief medical officer, Dr Massoud Fouladi, told Healthcare Europa.
