Portugal’s competition authority is concerned private healthcare consolidation may have caused price increases

The recently opened investigation into the merger of two of Portugal's biggest private hospital groups — CUF and HPA — by the competition watchdog (AdC) has highlighted concerns about a possible causal connection between price increases seen in the sector and the sector’s trend towards consolidation. AdC tells us, however, that the evidence uncovered so far has only been correlational.

Acibadem buys 80% stake in Bayindir Hospitals

The largest private hospital group in Turkey, Acibadem, has acquired an 80% stake in Bayindir Hospitals, another hospital group in Turkey, from lender İş Bankası, for $55 million, valuing the business at ~$80 million, according to Chairman Mehmet Ali Aydınlar. İş Bankası will own the remaining 20% share. The deal includes three hospitals and six dental clinics under the Bayındır Health Group, including two in Ankara and one in Istanbul, with 1,252 employees, including 205 physicians.
