Medicover expands further in CEE as demand for private diagnostics increases

Multinational hospital, outpatient and diagnostics group Medicover has expanded its laboratory diagnostics operations in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) by acquiring pan-European diagnostics group Synlab’s businesses in six countries: Romania, Turkey, Cyprus, Slovenia, Croatia, and North Macedonia.

Mehiläinen acquires Regina Maria and MediGroup, signalling growing investor confidence in CEE

Mehiläinen, Finland’s largest for-profit healthcare group, backed by Luxembourg-based CVC Capital Partners, has acquired Romania’s Regina Maria and Serbia’s MediGroup from private equity firm MidEuropa. The deal, which is said to be the largest ever healthcare services transaction in Central Europe, is pending regulatory approval and is expected to close later this year.

FutureLife Group, a pan-European provider of IVF and genetics services co-owned by Luxembourg-based private equity firm CVC Capital Partners and Central Europe-based private equity firm Hartenberg Holding, has acquired Gynatal, a fertility clinic in Timisoara, Romania.

Synlab sells Spanish division to Eurofins as part of long term divestment strategy

Pan-European diagnostic labs group Synlab is continuing to divest divisions of its business located in less profitable markets to divert resources towards more profitable markets. It is selling its Spanish division to Eurofins, a major listed multinational labs group, and is also attempting to sell its Romanian division.

Mid Europa to sell Romanian provider Regina Maria for over €1bn 

Mid Europa Partners, a central and eastern Europe-focused PE investor, is selling Regina Maria, Romania’s second largest private health care provider by revenue, after almost a decade of ownership. Turkish group Acibadem is rumoured to be likely to bid, although the group would not confirm this to HBI.
