Unmanned care booths – the future of primary care?

Unmanned primary care booths hosting a battery of tests and video links to medics at a nearby hospital are expected to be launched in the USA in July 2017. Enabling hospitals to massively expand their primary care channel to market, the company behind them reckons it can finance much of its growth from forward orders. Affidea acquires Q Diagnostica and enters the Spanish market

Affidea, independent pan-European healthcare provider of advanced diagnostic imaging and cancer care services, has signed a binding agreement for the sale and purchase of the diagnostic imaging company Q Diagnostica from Alantra Private Equity.

Brazil’s fourth largest diagnostics group Hermed Pardini has filed for an IPO, with proceeds expected to fund new acquisitions and greenfield projects – less than two months after competitor Alliar.

Private equity “certain to bid for Cerba”

Banking sources say they are confident that there will be bids for Cerba, the big French lab group. L'Agefi, the French financial news service, reports that first round bids for Cerba, the big reference lab group, put up for auction by PAI, ends this week. It names the advisers as Natixis and JPMorgan. Reuters reports that PAI expects to receive two bids of around €1.8bn on December 8.

Investcorp buys stake in Saudi Arabian lab chain Al Borg

Investcorp has bought a stake in Saudi Arabia's Al Borg Medical Laboratories, one of the largest private medical laboratory chains in the Gulf. This appears to be Investcorp’s first foray into health care services.

Life buys Alliance

As forecast here, Life Healthcare has purchased Alliance Medical, the big Anglo-Italian imaging services platform with a limited presence in a further six countries. The enterprise value of between £760m and £800m values the company at around 13 times EBITDA of £60m in the year to March 2016. We analyse the deal, which is a bet on West European governments increasing the outsourcing of medical services.

Cinven still in the race for Unilabs?

Although Cinven is reportedly out of the picture for French reference lab Cerba, one analyst says it is likely that the group is still looking at buying clinical diagnostics player Unilabs.
