Debatin quits Amedes

Joerg Debatin has quit as CEO of Amedes, the big German diagnostics laboratory, to join GE Healthcare as its chief technology officer. Some sources say that there are two remaining bidders for Amedes. Others say that everyone has now pulled out and the process is dead.

Future looks bright for private healthcare in Italy

Italian spending on private healthcare dropped in 2013 to €29.6bn, but the rise of mutual insurers and the “retailisation” of swathes of Italian healthcare means that the sector should continue to grow fast over the next decade, according to Francesco Maietta at Censis, a think tank which has just surveyed 1,200 consumers.

Fresenius Medical Care pulls out of Amedes and Synlab

Dialysis giant Fresenius MC decided not to buy Synlab after carrying out due diligence and has also pulled out of the running to buy Amedes. Meanwhile, it has just purchased a majority stake in US healthcare management group Sound Physicians.
