Aldagi leaves Turks standing in consolidation race

Aldagi BCI, the Bank of Georgia’s private medical insurer and the country’s largest hospital chain, has been snapping up stray hospital groups in strategic areas seemingly unopposed. Meanwhile, Turkish healthcare giant Universal Hospital Group – who once pledged $150 million to buy five Georgian hospitals – has angered locals and failed to come good on investment promises. Georgia is the only country in Europe to embark on the wholesale privatisation of its public hospital network.

Alvimedica buys into Croatian hospital

Turkish medtech group and stent manufacturer Alvimedica appears to have purchased a large empty private hospital in Croatia owned by entrepreneur Marin Bosotina who runs reagent distributor and lab group MC Analyza. Alvimedica plans to develop a centre of excellence in cardiology for the region.

Fresenius set to scoop up European lab group

Dialysis group Fresenius MC is starting due diligence to buy a large European lab group, say two sources. The move would enable Fresenius to build a new leg alongside its dialysis business, which faltered in 2013.

Report: IT is finally giving operators the edge

The three things which stood out from this event were, firstly, clear signs that new IT is impacting the sector, secondly, the growing confidence of management teams in private companies that they can deploy this to good effect, and thirdly, a sense that the public sector was often completely incapable of rolling out similar solutions.

Acibadem gets 100,000 patients online in three months

Acibadem, the big Turkish private hospital chain which is owned by IHH has signed up 100,000 patients to its online platform which allows users to look at their records and interrogate physicians. We talk to Merve Caglayan, who runs the system.
