Discovery to trial PROMs

The South African medical scheme, or private health insurer, Discovery Health, is interested in outcomes measurement and will soon trial patient reported outcomes measurements (PROMS) in collaboration with the provider Intercare, says Darren Sweidan, head of the Health Professional Unit. This is the one of the first such schemes in the country, as outcomes measurement has been stymied by a fragmented system and resistance by clinicians, he claims.

Aster DM expands hospital and pharmacy networks

UAE-based Aster DM is to open two 100-bed hospitals in the emirates of Sharjah and Dubai over the next three months –as part of $100m investment. Each hospital cost between $40m (AED150m) to $54m (AED200m). The group is also planning to build four other hospitals in the next two years.
