Orpea enters Germany with Silver Care deal

Orpea, Europe’s second largest nursing home group has moved into Germany with the acquisition of Silver Care, an unconsolidated operator with nearly 6,000 beds, from French private equity house Chequers Capital for cash. Observers were surprised by the speed of the deal. We talk to Orpea president Jean-Claude Marian.

Capio joins “IPO or sell” list

As forecast here, Apax and Nordic Capital, are preparing to float or sell Capio, the Pan-European hospital chain with facilities in Sweden, Germany, France and a psychiatric unit, Capio Nightingale in the UK. Separately, Capio is preparing to sell its French properties.

DomusVi goes to second round and announces Chinese venture

DomusVi, the big French nursing home group, has attracted four bids in the second round of its sale. Meanwhile CEO Jean-Francois Vitoux has come back from China with big plans to follow Orpea into the market for elderly care with a new joint venture, Duomel.
