HBI 2026: Procurement Summit — Procurement as a value creation driver

Hospitals, facing increased pressure on their budgets, are turning to procurement as a strategic lever for cost control and resilience. At HBI 2026, as part of the Procurement Summit, panellists explored how hospitals can drive value creation through smarter procurement. 

Sana Kliniken sells procurement arm to Nordic Capital-backed Vivecti Group

Sana Kliniken, Germany’s third largest for-profit hospital group by revenue, is selling its procurement arm, Sana Einkauf, to Vivecti Group, a major German healthcare procurement platform that has been owned by private equity firm Nordic Capital since 2018. A procurement expert tells us this deal looks like “a desperate attempt to finally achieve the long-awaited exit for Nordic Capital”.

Healthcare investment “through the bottom of the cycle” — Goldberg (Rothschild)

At last year’s conference Hedley Goldberg, Managing Director at multinational investment bank Rothschild, predicted healthcare M&A activity would begin picking up again in Q4 2023 or Q1 2024. But we’re now halfway through 2024 and there are still very few deals above €500m taking place. Goldberg is confident, however, that we have now passed through the bottom of the cycle.

Three key takeaways from the Pan-European Procurement Summit

A common refrain at the Pan-European Procurement Summit in Brussels was that price and quality are the two biggest concerns for procurement professionals. HBI heard plenty on price – especially price transparency – but rather than quality, attention turned to the growing concerns of sustainability and digitalisation.
