French telehealth group SeniorAdom to partner with large elderly care players

Having product-launched in January 2015, French telehealth group SeniorAdom just raised a new financing round from several investors. OMNES Capital, who led the financing round, says SeniorAdom will partner with key elderly care players, such as large nursing home groups, or health insurance companies.

Pihlajalinna, the Finnish healthcare and social services outfit, which recently IPOed with a market capitalisation of €255m, has struck a third joint venture with Finnish municipalities to outsource health and social services. Finland is likely to open up even more to the private sector under the current government.

Swedish nursing home 26% more cost efficient than its public counterpart, says four-year study

Ostersund, a Swedish municipality, commissioned a study assessing two identical care homes, one run by the public sector, the other by a private provider. Results might make the Swedish left-wing coalition rethink their policies aiming to curb private sector profits. Despite both homes receiving the same quality appraisal, the private one is more cost effective.

UK care industry in “serious position,” says Bupa CEO

The CEO of Bupa, Stuart Fletcher, spoke of his concern for the UK care industry, after the latest half-year results revealed a 10% fall in UK profits. Sales rose 7% to £4,916m, at constant exchange rates, or 3% taken at actual exchange rates. Underlying profit before taxation hit £253.3m, an increase of 2% at constant exchange rates (CER), but a fall of 3% taken at actual exchange rates (AER).

NMC aims to become regional leader

London-listed UAE hospital chain NMC Health is to invest $325m into Qatar and Saudi Arabia in the next two years. Although the group acquired Spanish fertility clinic Eugin in February 2015, this announcement indicates NMC sees growth closer to home. Competitors Aster DM and Al Noor also have big plans.

Orpea buys Residenz Gruppe Bremen

Orpea has added another German nursing home group to its portfolio and raised €310m through a Schuldschein, with Asians making up 30% of the lenders. We talk to president Jean-Claude Marian about the deal and the European nursing home market in general.

Canadian pension fund Investissements PSP takes 14% stake at Korian

Canadian pension fund Investissements PSP has acquired a 14% stake in Korian, the big Pan-European nursing home operator having bought shares from Batipart, Covea and ACM Vie on 10 July. In December 2013, another Canadian pension fund, CPPIB, bought a 15% stake in rival nursing home chain Orpea.
