Interview: Dr Chai Patel, chairman and CEO, HC-One

Chai Patel, former Ugandan refugee, medical doctor, adviser to the Blair government and, after selling his stake in British-based nursing home group HC-One two years ago, serial entrepreneur is one of the more colourful characters in the normally staid world of British adult social care. With 25 years of experience in the market, he's also well-placed to comment on its current plight. HC-One’s chairman warns of wave of UK care home closures

The chairman and CEO of the UK’s fourth largest care home group by sales, HC-One, has told Healthcare Europa that the latest funding arrangement for the industry is not enough and will lead to more closures. Dr Chai Patel, former owner of the Priory Group, believes “the government is coming up with new ideas” and also revealed HC-One is no longer considering sale and leaseback deals.
