UK private dentistry could face CMA review over price transparency

UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has called on the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the principal competition regulator in the UK, to launch an investigation into the country’s private dentistry sector, citing concerns over “hidden costs, lack of transparency and overtreatment.”  Letters released by the government reveal that Reeves has asked the regulator to examine how effectively competition operates among private providers and whether patients receive genuine choice and value for money.

Bridgepoint strengthens UK dental market presence with mydentist acquisition

British private investment firm Bridgepoint has agreed to acquire a majority stake in mydentist, the UK’s largest dental group holding a 5% market share, from Palamon Capital Partners, a London-based private equity firm. CEO Nilesh Pandya and the existing management team will continue in their roles post-acquisition. 

Advent sells Donte to OTPP for €1bn

Donte Group (formerly Vitaldent), Spain’s largest dental chain, has been sold by US PE firm Advent to Canadian pension fund Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP), for €1 billion. OTPP tells us the plan is to continue growing the group within the Spanish dental market organically, and work with Donte to consider “selective” M&A opportunities.

As UK gov plans to end overseas recruitment for social care, what does this mean for investors and providers?

The government has announced plans to reduce immigration in the UK and focus the system towards “those who contribute most to economic growth” with “higher skills standards” as well as training within the UK. As part of a white paper, the plan to lower “record-high levels of net migration” and end the “reliance on international recruitment” will include the end of overseas recruitment for social care visas, in a further hurdle to overcome for the sector. 

MyDentist rumoured for sale amid shifting UK oral health landscape

Private equity firms Bridgepoint, Cinven, TDR Capital, and Triton Partners are reportedly among the early bidders interested in acquiring MyDentist, the UK’s largest dental chain, according to Sky News.  The current owners, Palamon Capital Partners, are hoping to fetch around £900 million, although the final deal could be closer to £800 million, the newspaper further reported.
